Rock, 23, has a burgeoning career but first gained popularity through the comedic videos he would send to his friends on Snapchat. The success of Rock’s social media profiles has allowed him to score brand collaborations and lucrative sponsorship deals. These days his social media profiles boast millions of followers, 17 million on Instagram, 11.9 million on TikTok, and 8.6 million on YouTube.

In the first episode of Rock’s show, he recalled his childhood which he claimed was marred by financial hardship. In middle school, he failed a cooking course because he couldn’t afford to bring in any ingredients, “It taught me so many lessons about having nothing and only having dreams, that’s all we could afford,” he recalled.

Rock’s mom worked hard to support the family, often leaving before he even went to school and only having enough time in the evening to cook him and his siblings’ dinner before heading to bed.

Being a successful social media personality can be lucrative, but finding fame as a teenager was confusing, especially because it happened to Rock so fast.

By the time he was 17, his name was known by millions, and he didn’t understand his rapid rise to fame, telling KITV in an interview that “it all happened so fast.” Speaking about the increasing number of followers he had, the influencer said, “just two months ago I was at 200k and now I’m at 2.7 million.” That was in 2015.

By the end of his sophomore year in high school, Bretman had over 10 million people seeing his posts.

Rock started posting videos on YouTube in 2015, where he showcased his beauty expertise. His ‘How to Contour’ video made his YouTube subscribers and viewers skyrocket at a time when the beauty guru scene was just being established. His success on the platform brought brand collaborations and the opportunity to develop his own brush set, a highlighter palette, and eyeshadow kit at just 20 years old.

Earlier this year, he made a deal with MTV, which saw Rock starring on his own reality TV show similar to those that had inspired him in his youth. This summer, he landed a YouTube Originals show called ’30 Days With Bretman Rock.’

Rock has found success as a model as well and was featured on the Pride Month cover of Gay Times in June 2019. He attended his first New York Fashion Week, where he collaborated with stylist Andrew Gelwicks.

All that success has padded Rock’s pockets and allows him to live a luxurious life.

The social media star has a portfolio of expensive cars, including a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Tesla, and a Jeep Wrangler that he says is his favorite.

He keeps them parked outside of his $2 million-dollar lush Hawaiian mansion, which was redesigned by Chuen Yee-headed interior design firm MCYIA and decorated with the help of Filipino designer Kenneth Cobonpue. The result is a vibrant space that harkens the social media star’s youth and helps him stay humbled.

The 3,539 square foot mansion is located on the beachfront overlooking the Pacific Ocean and features five bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, a resort-style swimming pool, a large kitchen, and a jacuzzi. The property was featured in Architectural Digest, where it was described as a slice of paradise.

Rock is set to see even more success as NBC is reporting that he will be featured on Playboy. The social media influencer and makeup guru is the first gay man to appear on the magazine’s cover.
